India have Full Control of Game Ravichandran Ashwin hundred
Opening Day of Match b/w Ind vs Ban Summary
Ravichandran Ashwin’s superb century led India to a strong recovery on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh. Ashwin, unbeaten on 102, along with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 86*, forged a record seventh-wicket partnership that lifted India from a difficult position after they had struggled in the first two sessions. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century, India found themselves in trouble at 144/6, largely due to Hasan Mahmud’s sharp bowling. However, Ashwin and Jadeja counterattacked, adding 195 runs in 227 balls to take India to 339/6 by Stumps.
India’s early sessions were challenging, scoring only 88 runs while losing three wickets in each. Ashwin and Jadeja turned the tide in the final session, smashing 163 runs at a brisk rate, hitting 20 fours and 4 sixes between them. Bangladesh’s over-rate was poor, delivering only 23 and 25 overs in the first two sessions and managing just 32 in the extended final session.
Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh took advantage of favorable conditions, with Taskin Ahmed testing India’s openers. Rohit Sharma narrowly escaped an lbw decision but soon fell to a slip catch off Mahmud. Shubman Gill departed for a duck, followed by Virat Kohli, leaving India at 34 for 3, all wickets claimed by Mahmud.
Rishabh Pant, returning to Test cricket, built a solid partnership with Jaiswal, adding 62 runs before Mahmud struck again to remove Pant for 39, ending a promising stand. Jaiswal continued alongside KL Rahul, reaching his fifty, but was soon dismissed by Nahid Rana. Rahul fell shortly after to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, leaving India struggling.
Ashwin and Jadeja then took charge, attacking Bangladesh’s bowlers after Tea. Jadeja hit a six off Mahmud, and both batters used reviews to overturn lbw decisions in their favor. Ashwin’s boundary-hitting, combined with Jadeja’s powerful strokes, helped India to a strong position. Ashwin reached his fifty off 58 balls, and the pair quickly raised a 100-run partnership.
The two surpassed India’s previous record for a seventh-wicket partnership against Bangladesh, breaking Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan’s 133-run stand from 2004. Jadeja and Ashwin kept the pressure on, with the latter reaching his hundred with a series of boundaries, ensuring India ended the day in a commanding position.
Brief scores: India 339/6 (Ravichandran Ashwin 102*, Ravindra Jadeja 86*, Yashasvi Jaiswal 56; Hasan Mahmud 4-58) vs Bangladesh.
